Termite Season in Florida: When Swarmers Show Up and What to Do About Them
Florida has both subterranean and drywood termites, and between them there is no month without risk. But swarms cluster in spring and early summer, and that's when most homeowners first realize they have a problem.
Subterranean termites
Live in the soil, build mud tubes up the foundation, and eat from the bottom up. Eastern and Formosan subterranean termites swarm February through May, usually after rain. Treated with liquid soil barriers or bait stations, no tent required.
Drywood termites
Live entirely inside the wood, leave tiny pellet piles (frass), and swarm in late spring through summer, often in the evening. Localized infestations get spot treatment; widespread ones need fumigation.
What a termite inspection covers
