Dead Animal Smell in the Wall or Attic: Finding It and Getting Rid of It
The smell usually starts a few days after a rat, squirrel or opossum dies somewhere inside the structure. It peaks over one to two weeks and can linger for a month if nothing is done.
How we find it
Flies gathering at one spot, a stain on drywall, warmth on a thermal camera, and following the strongest point of the odor room by room. Sometimes a small drywall cut is needed; we patch it.
Removal and odor treatment
The carcass and any contaminated insulation are removed, the cavity is sanitized and deodorized, and the opening is repaired.
The part people skip
An animal died inside because an animal got inside. Our dead animal removal visits include checking how it entered so exclusion can stop the next one. Call (833) 659-0727.
