How they get in
Gable vents, roof returns, rotted fascia, gaps where the roof meets the wall, and the corner of a soffit they chewed open last year and someone patched with foam.
Signs
Scampering at dawn and dusk, chewed wires, nests of leaves and insulation, and squirrels you see going into the roofline.
The fix
- Inspect the whole roofline, not just the visible hole.
- Install one-way doors; squirrels exit and can't return.
- Trap any that won't leave, and remove babies by hand.
- Seal every gap with steel mesh and matching materials.
